Technology Program

Technology at C.V.P.S

All classes at Colo Vale Public have access to interactive whiteboards, class computers and two computer labs. The Computer Coordinator is Mr Stanger.

All 10 classes, Library and Staff Room have interactive whiteboards as well as the new computer lab.   The school Hall is also equipped with a computer and screen for displaying various items from students and the community.

IWB's (Interactive Whiteboards)                                 What can interactive whiteboards do?

These are large touch computer screens that replace the traditional chalkboard and behave like your own computer. They provide access directly to the Internet and have many multimedia resources. This means sound, music, vodcasts, video and interactive lessons are part of the 'chalkboard'.

Technology usage at C.V.P.S

At Colo Vale we are very lucky to have two computer labs that are available. Computers are also in every classroom as well as students having access to laptops.

The Staff at Colo Vale Public have had a lot of professional development using technology.  Last year the school moved to a new school reporting system that allows teachers to report on all aspects of the student  from school and home. This information is directly linked to the student allowing for teachers to track student progress. Additionally, using the same software, teachers now mark their class rolls on-line using their classroom interactive whiteboards and track student welfare issues. These are just a few of the state of the art technological adjustments that Colo Vale Public has made recently, and there are more to come!

While this professional development is continually ongoing and teachers knowledge and skills continually being extended, the daily integration of technology in classes throughout the school is excellent.

Bring Your Own Device - (BYOD)

What is BYOD?

Bring Your Own Device, or BYOD, is a technological trend in education and in the corporate world. BYOD recognises that technology and choices about technology are very much personal. BYOD acknowledges technology in education means more than meeting specific curriculum requirements. BYOD is designed to give you, as students and families, freedom to make technology choices that suit you and all your circumstances.

How does it work?

Students will be allowed to bring a device that connects to the Department of Education's Wi-Fi for in class use. Students will first have to undergo training at school to ensure that they are a model ‘digital citizen'. Students may be allowed to bring any approved device, however they will remain fully responsible for the care, maintenance and security of the device they bring to school. Teacher storeroom will be one such lockable area that students can store their devices. Students without devices will have access to in-class computers and iPads to use.

Why do we need BYOD?
The world today's students are growing up in is becoming increasingly tech-addicted. We use our mobile devices all the time for just about everything these days. Today's students will likely be using mobile devices in their future careers, so why not teach them with the tools they will be working with in the future.
The whole point of education is to prepare them for their future right?
Benifits include:
Collaboration is easier             Learning beyond the classroom walls
Personalized instruction          Education more interactive
Increased Engagement           Student and Teacher swap roles                      eBooks

Colo Vale Public School will see a trial of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) on the senior class this year.
